RF Microneedling & CO2 Laser Treatments Q&A
What is RF microneedling?
Standard microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that prompts your body to increase its production of collagen and other natural substances that are used to repair and renew damaged skin.
RF microneedling advances the therapy to the next level by adding heat via radiofrequency (RF) energy to enhance the effects of standard microneedling.
During an RF microneedling treatment, your Harmony Med Spa provider uses a small hand-held device to make a series of micro punctures in the targeted treatment area. At the same time, radiofrequency energy flows into the tiny channels created by the needle.
Although essentially painless and small enough to disappear almost instantly, these tiny pinpricks and the RF energy do enough damage that your skin produces extra collagen and elastin to heal the wounds.
The new skin tissue that develops after RF microneedling is naturally firmer and more even in tone and texture. Surface scars and pigment changes associated with sun damage also fade as old skin cells are replaced with new ones.
What conditions are treated with RF microneedling?
Most often used on the face, RF microneedling can effectively reduce the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Enlarged pores
- Collagen Loss
RF microneedling can also tighten your skin by improving its elasticity and firmness, which is a natural result of increased collagen and elastin. Other scars, including stretch marks on your thighs and abdomen, may also respond to microneedling. Sometimes RF microneedling is combined with a facial treatment that may include platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
What happens during an RF microneedling treatment?
During your initial evaluation at Harmony Med Spa, your provider explains RF microneedling in detail before scheduling the procedure.
You may not be a candidate for RF microneedling if you’re using certain oral medications or topical treatments for acne. It’s also recommended that you not take aspirin or other over-the- counter products for a couple of days to reduce your risk of increased bleeding during the procedure.
A topical anesthetic applied to the treatment area prevents any discomfort during the procedure. Your skin may be slightly pink and tender afterward, but this usually fades quickly.
You should avoid sun exposure and certain skin care products that may irritate the skin immediately following treatment, but you can otherwise expect to return to routine activities after RF microneedling.
What are CO2 Laser Treatments?
CO2 laser treatments target lines, texture, tone, and brown spots. It corrects color problems, eliminates fine lines and tightens the skin, giving the entire face a younger, refreshed appearance. Although it is most often used to treat the face, the CO2 laser can be used to improve neck, chest, arms, and hand skin. CO2 laser treatments also softens and eliminates vertical lines around the mouth and can even tighten the eyelid skin.
Which skin conditions do CO2 Laser Treatments address?
The CO2 Fractional Laser treatment at Harmony Med Spa can restore a natural glow and softness to your skin by stimulating cell regeneration on the surface.
A series of 3-4 CO2 Fractional Laser treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart improves:
- Aging Skin
- Crepey/loose skin
- Skin Laxity
- Discoloration, dark/aging spots, sun spots, freckles
How should I care for my skin after CO2 Laser Treatments?
It’s crucial to take great care of your skin in the days, weeks, and months following a laser treatment, especially if you have sensitive skin. You don’t need any time away from work or other responsibilities after a laser treatment, but be prepared to see some lingering redness for several days.
Avoid direct sunlight and apply a generous amount of sunscreen every day. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can cause skin damage and make it more sensitive for the next laser treatment.
